#nationalcodingweek interview with Jacob

- 18 September
Our final interview is with Jacob, who is the most recent member to join the team and is our second Graduate Apprentice.
Maria and Tim go to the Anderson High School Careers Evening.
Last night Tim and I, along with over seventy other local employers, education providers and support services, participated in the careers evening at Anderson High School. The event was hosted by DYW and SDS Shetland, who did a fantastic job organising it, and attracted 657 parents, teachers, students and people looking to retrain through the doors.
Following a slightly embarrassing start where the bottom of my marketing box fell out (many thanks to my rescuers from SDS and Aker Solutions for coming to my assistance!) the table was set up and I even managed to sneak in a couple of the delicious canapes provided by Cope Ltd.
The focus of our evening was to promote our work experience and graduate apprenticeship opportunities. It was energising to speak with students who have an interest in a career in software development and were keen to join us for a week. We also enjoyed speaking to students who genuinely had no idea what they wanted to do after they finished school, or what a career in software development even looks like. One-day taster sessions received a really positive response. We look forward to having the opportunity to inspire the next generation of developers. If you’re interested in learning more about the life of a coder, why not check out this video Barnaby created for My World of Work?
We were delighted to catch up with some students who have already had work experience with us. What’s more, we even had some ask if they could come back for further sessions with us and even enquired about applying for our graduate apprenticeship scheme. We feel that this is a wonderful endorsement of Mesomorphic’s approach to creating local employment opportunities.
It’s great for us to see the Graduate Apprenticeship becoming a recognised choice for school leavers. We feel that as a pathway into a career in software development, it ticks so many boxes. It provides us with a springboard to offer local opportunities for paid apprenticeships whilst helping Mesomorphic grow as a company. If you want to find out more about the Graduate Apprenticeship scheme we offer, please get in touch and we will be happy to talk to you about it.
